Alzheimers financial and legal issues

National Academy of Elder-Law Attorneys (NAELA)

The NAELA is a nonprofit group based in Tucson, Ariz., and established in 1987 that helps lawyers deal with older clients and the increasing number of legal issues that relate to them. This site contains information about the NAELA, plus downloadable fact sheets on many legal issues of concern to the elderly. Fact sheets relating to Alzheimer's disease deal with durable powers of attorney, long-term care insurance, guardianship and conservatorship, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Safe-T-Net

Safe-T-Net is a site that provides information about insurance, including a great deal of useful information about long-term care insurance and viatical settlements that may be useful to families of people with Alzheimer's disease.

Viatical Association of America

Viatical settlements allow people to sell their life insurance policies for a portion of the death benefit while still living to pay for long-term care. This site by the trade association of viatical companies contains a good introduction to the promise -- and possible pitfalls -- of viatical settlements.
