Alzheimers housing options
American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA)
The AAHSA is the trade organization representing the nation's 5,000 not-for-profit assisted-living facilities and nursing homes. Member facilities house more than one million elderly people. The site provides a variety of services geared to member organizations, but it has a large consumer area that deals with how to find a quality elder housing facility, plus a list of names, addresses, and phone numbers of hundreds of facilities in 26 states and the District of Columbia accredited by the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission (CCAC), and information about criteria for CCAC accreditation. There's also an informative special section called "Exploring Care Options for a Relative with Alzheimer's Disease." Finally, the site contains a catalog of 10 books and audio tapes on long-term care issues.
Senior Living Alternatives
Interested in a retirement residence? An in-home helper? An assisted living situation? Or a nursing home? Since 1992, Senior Living Alternatives has compiled lists of housing options for the elderly -- those who are healthy, and those who need assistance. Listings are most complete for the Midwest, where Senior Living Alternatives is based, but now that it's on the Web, the organization has branched out, and its site contains an increasing number of national listings, organized by state.
